Ask one useful question

A simple question about size, preferred garment type or items already owned can prevent an unnecessary duplicate. Respect an existing registry where there is one. Do not guess a baby’s size from age alone, and do not turn a preference for a fibre or fastening into a claim about health or sleep benefits.

Choose an easy-to-understand garment

Look for a clear description of the pack quantity, coverage, fastening and care requirements. A modest gift with clear information is easier for the recipient to use than a surprise with unknown sizing or unusual care needs. Where a retailer’s information is incomplete, contact that retailer or choose an option with fewer unanswered questions.

Make the exchange practical

Find out whether the retailer offers a gift receipt, what information the recipient needs and how gifts are handled under the current returns policy. Avoid assuming that a gift receipt guarantees a refund to the recipient. If an item is final sale or personalised, make sure you are comfortable with the stated restrictions before ordering.

Send a helpful note, not a marketing claim

Include the retailer’s name, the product information and any gift-receipt instructions. A personal message is enough; there is no need to describe an ordinary garment as “the safest,” “hypoallergenic” or medically beneficial without substantiation. Keep the shopping choice separate from advice about a child’s care.
